DEHNguard MP

Easy. Quick. Safe. DEHNguard MP with push-in double terminals saves space and installation time. The pluggable connections at the front enable convenient feed-through wiring – without a terminal block.

DEHNguard MD

The integrated double screw clamp allows either 1 x 35 mm² or 2 x 16 mm² (copper) cores to be securely connected. This enables a standard-compliant and space-saving installation that saves both time and additional terminals.

Three-stage protection concept

A Type 2 surge arrester (also known as SPD Type 2 for surge protective devices) is typically used in sub-distribution boards in electrical installations. It protects electrical and electronic devices from transient overvoltages that can be caused by switching operations in the network or indirect lightning strikes. Type 2 SPDs reduce overvoltages to a level that is safe for terminal equipment, with a typical discharge capacity of 5–20 kA (8/20 µs) per pole.

Type 2 arresters are an important part of an effective surge protection concept, in which the incoming energy is gradually reduced to a low level that is harmless to terminal equipment:

Stage 1 represents type-1 lightning current arresters / combined arresters at the entrance point into the building (lightning equipotential bonding).
Stage 2 is type-2 surge arresters usually installed in the downstream sub-distribution boards.
Stage 3 includes type-3 surge arresters, which can be installed directly at the terminal device or in socket outlets.

Interaction of the individual protection stages ensures the best possible protective effect. To this end, the relevant arresters must be energy coordinated according to IEC 60364-5-53 clause 534.
